facebook, uni, old people.

when i started at uni, as far ago as 2004, i looked online for forums of new students. i 'met' a good few people on there, some i'm still in touch with, others i know as people who also take up space on forums and non-facebook interspace.

it wasn't until 2006 i hit the book of face, it was, to me, 'dull as a box of hair' in those days. in many many ways, it still is. no matter how lively it gets, it doesn't beat a good forum thread... also its just so.. serious! i miss in a lot of ways the relative anonymity of forums and blogs. this is the first point at which i feel like i'm growing old...

from the age of about 12/13, i've had a mobile phone. since then, i've always wondered how people met up with each other or arranged anything before such devices existed. i was interested in the common sense approaches of those only a little older than me. 'we just rang each other at home and said we'd be at a place at a time and then we just were there and so was the other person...' pah! what if you were running late? the other person waited...

anyway.

i went to uni before facebook existed. (for me)

there will be people out there, with the same curiosity i had about pre-mobile phone yoofs, about me, a pre social networking student.

the internet

i was googleing for my favourite weather presenter, tom chakalaka and i found this rant on a forum.

"Why oh why are so many female BBC weather presenters pregnant?

What is the thought process behind their being the choice for this job?

In no other programme are so many pregnant women chosen. They are even chosen to front the programmes if it is obvious that they are pregnant to begin with.

It seems to be some kind of positive bias - non-pregnant women and men need not apply!"

i dunno where to start and i loled so much i thought i would share it.

getting old

a few things recently have reminded me that i am not the yoof i used to be.

well ok, i am reminded of this every time i go to work but i like to think that after office hours i am a lively silly dizzy young thing who contributes to binge drinking culture and the moral deteriation of our fine nation.

however

i spent about 7 minutes in Yates on saturday night. this is silly, i do actually like the place. even though they discriminate against cheapskate vegetarians who need a fried breakfast at 2pm, i love their food, i love their cheese and leek sausages, mash and peas, i love their... sameness as you go round the country, you know you can get a cheap slap up meal in yates whenever and it'll always be alright.

what i don't like is being surrounded by drunken sweaty teens, cheesy music and people that look like they have been getting ready to go out since last tuesday. i don't like no where to sit/stand/try and stay upright with all the people pushing past u, the feet stuck to the floor problem, the piss all over the floor in the toilets and the general feeling that i should have drank at least four times what i had done in order to have a decent time here. i couldn't really work out how this was to be done, since i couldn't even *see* the bar let alone get to it...

i spent so long in that sort of boozing establishment, and these days i have a short attention span, i know what i want and if it aint there, i'm gone. i can't decide if that's a clever trick you learn as you get older, not to put up with shite, or if it's a mere justification of the fact i am turning into a grumpy arse.

maybe i am just trying to pretend that i am strong willed and awesome, when in fact i am just moody and no fun!! arhh!!

*identity crisis*

whatever.

beryl cook

was awesome, this is a bit late i know but i am never on time with anything, i'll probably write a fathers day post in august. blogger is being really lame and won't let me re arrange this post, but the top 2 are paintings she did for the queen, the first one shows her dancing with prince phil, and the second, entitled 'the royal couple' shows queeny with a corgy. I hope *cough* that colin appriciates these tributes to the queen.

beryl cook also liked to paint round ladies and gents, and grannies, sailors, football players and ladies in the pub, excellent subjects that never seem to be portryed as quite as wonderful as fun as she paints them anymore.

the last pic is her self portrait. RIP and thank you

blimey

who says romance is dead part 2

HORNSEA, England, April 30 (UPI) -- A 94-year-old woman has become Britain's oldest bride at a ceremony in Hornsea, England.

Bess Atkins, 94, wed Winston Barraclough, 86, at St. Nicholas Church, the same location as her first wedding in 1939, The Daily Mail reported Wednesday.

Atkins said Barraclough proposed in January on New Year's Day.

"I thought it was some medical problem and feared the worst," she said. "He said: 'Will you be my wife please. I would love to marry you.' I was totally shocked but I said yes, that would be lovely."
